Since December of 1999, the United Nations has declared Vesak, or Buddha Purnima, marking the Birth, Enlightenment and Parinibbana of Buddha, an official international holiday. On May 15, 2000, I humbly addressed the United Nations on the first official celebration of the Vesak.
